Be wary of unsolicited job offers promising easy money for social media tasks in South Africa!

The Scam:

Fraudsters are impersonating representatives of well-known social media groups and online marketing companies. They lure victims through chat groups on WhatsApp and Telegram with job offers involving boosting social media traction.

These tasks might include:

  • Following influencer accounts
  • Liking and subscribing to YouTube channels
  • Increasing follower counts by liking/commenting on posts
  • Liking songs on Spotify

Initially, victims receive small commissions to build trust. The scammers then introduce "advanced tasks" that require creating accounts on fake websites and transferring money (often in increasing amounts) to bank accounts or cryptocurrency wallets controlled by them. Victims only realize they've been scammed when:

  • Their website accounts show negative balances.
  • They are pressured to "upgrade" their accounts with more money.
  • They are unable to withdraw their "earnings."

Protect Yourself:

  • Don't accept unsolicited job offers: Legitimate companies wouldn't approach you randomly.
  • Beware of "easy money" promises: If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
  • Verify job offers: Always check their authenticity through official channels. Check with SAPAC (Read Link) or others.
  • Never share financial information: Don't send money to unknown individuals.
  • Scrutinize websites: Don't create accounts or transfer money on suspicious platforms. Contact SAPAC for FREE assistance.
